Patrick Flynn, DVM
Surgical Intern
Dr. Patrick Flynn is from Ocean City, New Jersey. He attended West Virginia University where he received a bachelor’s degree in biology. During his final year of college, his career path changed from natural conservation to veterinary medicine. His love of traveling and new experiences brought him to St. George’s University, School of Veterinary Medicine. He spent three and a half years there, learning both veterinary medicine and the rich culture of Grenada. Hurricane Ivan struck the island of Grenada in September, 2004, leaving a wake of destruction and a subsequent mass evacuation of the island. Dr. Flynn took a leave of absence from his studies to stay on the island and take part in disaster relief work. In addition, he helped develop an emergency veterinary hospital and ambulatory service that provided care for both small and large animals.
From Grenada, Dr. Flynn moved to Champaign-Urbana to complete his final year at the University of Illinois. After receiving his DVM degree in 2006, he returned to Grenada to work at the veterinary school’s small animal hospital. There he focused on surgery and emergency care. He was fortunate to work side-by-side with the SGU students in the hospital and as a clinical instructor in the Junior Surgery Lab.
After returning to the United States, Dr. Flynn completed a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Rotating Internship at the University of Missouri. His long-term goal is dual board certification in small animal surgery and emergency and critical care. His main interests are wound management, sepsis, shock, and soft tissue and bone trauma and related surgical reconstructive techniques
Dr. Flynn is a member of the Society of Phi Zeta and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He enjoys traveling and has spent time in over 15 countries. He likes being outdoors participating in his favorite activities: surfing, snowboarding, hiking, triathlons, and marathons.
